Artist Note:

House of LaRo honors reclamation and creating havens: safe spaces for heirloom objects that hold space for ceremony, belonging, culture, beauty, and radical rest.

My art explores femininity, form, transformation, ancestral connection, devotion, and sensuality. I am drawn to the beauty of artifacts and how our art lives beyond us. I came to hand-building during a season of healing and self-discovery, working with the medium for joy, growth, and healing. Falling in love with the rewarding, challenging, and tactile energy of co-creating with earth. One creation informs the next; every design, every surprise and mishap opens up endless possibilities.There's a meditative quality in the process, shaping each sculpture with intention, playing with contrasts: soft and hard, smooth and organic, refined and raw.

Every piece is intentionally sculpted with love by me, a Black woman artist, in my modest DTLA home studio. Each carries the mark of the hands that shaped it. I'm forever grateful for every single soul that chooses to cherish any of my creations and use them as tools to cultivate their own sacred space.
